"I suppose we can forgive Donald Bruce Beard’s lack of knowledge in his letter.

His letter came from Banning, Calif., a long way from what really happened in North Dakota.

The Spirit Lake and Standing Rock Sioux tribes did not ask to be in the NCAA and State Board of Higher Education agreement, nor did we have any say in the wording of the agreement. This was not in any way a treaty between the Sioux and the NCAA and North Dakota Board of Higher Education.

Banning is a long way from North Dakota, about as far as Beard is from the truth."
